Sleep Medicine

Dr. Don Walley is dedicated to helping snorers, their bed partners and sleep apnea sufferers through the use of FDA approved mandibular repositioning appliances.  While snoring can be disruptive to bed partners and other household members, it can also be an indication of a potentially life-threatening condition called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).  OSA occurs when the tongue and soft palate collapse onto the back of the throat, causing airflow to stop.  These episodes can disrupt sleep, leading to daytime sleepiness and cardiovascular disease.  Mandibular repositioning appliances keep the lower jaw and tongue in a more forward position, keeping the airway open and reducing snoring/apnea, leading to more restful nights and healthier lives.

Some studies have shown that more than 50% of Americans have undiagnosed OSA.  It is important to properly diagnose OSA as it can have a deep impact on a person's health.  In fact, OSA has been associated with the following symptoms:

   • Snoring
   • Choking in Sleep
   • Gasping for Air in Sleep
   • Daytime Sleepiness
   • Unclear Thinking
   • Depression
   • High Blood Pressure
   • Heart Disease
   • Irregular Heart Beat
   • Stroke

If you think you or someone you love may suffer from sleep apnea, or you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above, please contact our office for a screening consultation.
